Cherry Pit 10 Mile Run
A short race recap
April 3, 2016
Rachel and my dad were interested in doing this race, and for $10 I thought maybe it'd be fun to run a road race (..haven't done any in quite some time.) New Orleans 70.3 is 2 weeks out so I didn't taper for this. Goal was to try for 1:04, to feel out the pace to consider for New Orleans. From yesterday's ride and brick, legs felt worn going up stairs this morning... So maybe a good test for tri running!
Cold and windy morning... shrug.. At least not rainy. I fell in with some Navy marathon team guys early on and carried a comfortable pace. Throughout the race I slowly added a little effort but kept it comfortable and smooth. There was a guy 80 yards ahead since mile 3, and for some reason I wanted to beat him. So at mile 7 I turned it up a bit, dropped my Navy buddy and ran faster than planned to hunt down the runner up. Closed on him at mile nine and kept it up to make a comfortable gap.
Overall time came in way faster than planned on a hilly windy course, 1:00:40, 4th OA.
Got a cherry pie 🙂
Overall I'm pretty excited with this result as a sign of my fitness coming along well!
Rachel did well, 1:18, a new PR. Unfortunately a minute too slow to win a pie for herself :p My dad's just getting back into running this season so it's good that he ran. I guess I'll share my pie.
